All children who live within the Ngaio School enrolment zone are able to enrol at Ngaio School. From time to time the school may hold a ballot for places for out of zone students. Please contact the office for more information.

The enrolment process differs slightly depending on the age of your child/ren.

If your child is starting school for the first time, we would ideally like to have you digitally pre-enrol them by the time they are 4 1/2 years old. This helps us with our planning and organisation.

For children who are older, or changing schools, please digitally pre-enrol them as soon as possible to start the pre-enrolment process with us.

When you submit the digital pre-enrolment,  our enrolment officer will come back to you and request documents to ensure your child is eligible to  enrol in our school.  Please note that we are happy to accept copies of original documents, but all documents need to be translated if they are not in English (such as birth certificate or vaccination records).  These requested documents can include the following:

  • A copy of the eligibility document for your child.  This can be:
    •      NZ birth certificate or NZ passport (if NZ citizen)
    •      Australian passport (if Australian citizen) or
    •     NZ residency permit or NZ student visa/permit and Parental work permit (if your child is not a NZ citizen).
  • Proof of your address (if in zone, e.g., utilities bill, rental/sales agreement).
  • A copy of any Court Order Documents (if applicable)

For New Entrants (Year 0-1), once your child’s pre-enrolment is completed, you will be invited to attend our Transition to School Programme.  Parents are required to stay with their child for all visits.

In order to complete your child’s pre-enrolment procedure, please click on this link and complete the process.

We operate an enrolment zone, which means anyone residing within a specific area outlined in our zone map is automatically accepted at Ngaio School. From time to time the school holds a ballot for places for out of zone students. Please contact the office for information.

Ngaio School’s normal geographic zone includes all the streets within the area defined by these access points to Ngaio and shown on the below map.

  • East of the railway overbridge, which excludes Churchill Drive and includes Waikowhai Street
  • South of the midline of Lucknow Terrace. West of Cockayne Rd between Lucknow Terrace and Calcutta Street. Both sides of Cockayne Road from the south corner of Calcutta Street through all increasing numbers (excluding Calcutta Street). All of Punjab Street, all of Kabul Street – not Waru Street
  • West of the intersection of Fox Street and Amapur Drive. Including Fox Street and excluding Amapur Drive.

See the list of streets in the Ngaio School zone in the attachment found here.

The Kōwhai Transition to School Programme

Ngaio School’s Transition to School Programme helps you and your child understand how the school works and what to expect at school in the first few weeks. Parents and caregivers attend with your child.

The Kōwhai Transition to School Programme runs on Tuesdays from 10-11am. You can contact the office to arrange these sessions or make your bookings via this Google Form .  We encourage you to attend two sessions prior to your child starting school. Additional sessions may be booked if you think this will be beneficial for your child’s transition.

We also invite you and your child to meet with our principal, Phil McIntosh. Please let the office know if you would like to schedule a meeting.

Please let the office know you are coming by emailing info@ngaio.school.nz

Sun smart hats  are compulsory in the summer months (Terms 1 and 4). You can buy Ngaio School sun smart hats from the school office or you can supply your own child’s hat as long as it is brimmed (or has a long side and back flaps) to shade the face, nose, neck and ears.

The only other dress requirement is that your child wears suitable footwear for outdoor activities, so no jandals. We recommend that everything is named. Ngaio School branded clothing  can be purchased from the office.

Stationery starter packs are available at the school office for new entrants, or alternatively you can pick up a list of stationery items to purchase. The pack provides everything a new entrant needs for the classroom.
