SPRING into MATHS:
The ‘SPRING into Maths’ programme is a maths support programme which was developed out of the work of Dr Marilyn Holmes (Otago University/Otago College of Education, Dunedin). The Numeracy facilator Julie Roberts at Victoria University, has continued to develop and promote this programme across various primary schools.
The focus of ‘SPRING into Maths’ is to provide extra support to students in Years 3-6. The emphasis of the programme is on the acceleration of student achievement, in number knowledge.
This intervention programme is delivered by a trained teacher aide, 3 times a week. Students work in small groups of 4 students for up to 10 weeks.
The programme has six components, as follows:
S – start counting
P – patterns
R – reinforcing strategy
I – identifying numbers
N – number facts
G - game
